Staying fit during off season

” Fitness is not about being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you used to be”

I find it hard to keep myself satisfied during the off season…. so I decided this year I needed to get into shape. I found that walking these hills in the Appalachia area of Ohio wasnt getting any easier. I also knew I wouldn’t be sneaking up on anything when I was panting for air.

1st step- making a dedication to yourself for a better lifestyle. This includes eliminating stress as much as possible, clean eating, plenty of sleep and an appropriate exercise routine.

2nd- having an accountability partner.. there are many days I don’t want to go to the gym at 6am but I know my partner will be waiting on me.

3rd– Finding an appropriate work out routine. It’s not smart to start the first day thinking you will do the most hardcore workout …. trust me… I’ve done it and it causes you to feel defeated and not stay with it. Start with easy isometric exercises and then work your way up with progression of weights and reps. You will see a difference but it takes time.. yes I myself wanted to know where my 6 pack was after the first week too! High intensity is great for burning fat.. so fewer less breaks and keep moving.

4th– take circumference measurements…. don’t focus on the number on the scale…. it’s not accurate for tracking progress…. I have gained weight since working out because I have gained more muscle mass…. but I lost inches as I was toning up!

5th— hydrate …. water and clean eating…. no this does not mean eating like a rabbit and eating salads from now on… you need a variety with lean meat( deer especially is good) and veggies and fruits along with healthy fats such as nuts. Avoid processed food and sugar…. I had to slowly cut down on sugar and now I don’t even crave it. Also if it’s not something you can pronounce, you probably don’t need to eat it…. the less the ingredients the better.

6th— plenty of sleep and consistent sleep schedule is important. We store belly fat from stress!!

7th— always push yourself and never give up …. you will never get results if you do the same routine… If it’s easy make it harder!
