This One’s for the Girls

” This ones for the girls who love without holding back, who dream with everything they have, all around the world “- Martina McBride

Yes this one is for the girls and for everyone who loves hunting for that matter. I was listening to this song driving and I was thinking about how it’s not so easy for women in the hunting industry. I witnessed it firsthand. I am a rep for an arrow company ( Slash arrows) and I recently worked an outdoor expo. I have used the arrows and personally can vouch for how great and unique of a product they really are. I would politely explain the specifications as well as my own personal experiences, yet would get questions like ” Have you really actually used them?” and ” Young lady, do you really know how they work?” I had the most difficulty getting a sale yet stood beside three men who were sealing deals left and right. I felt like I was not being taken as serious or legitimate. By the end of the day I had made a few sales and was discouraged. I was polite, I had explained the product efficiently and was genuinely enjoying meeting new people in the hunting industry. Now given, the 3 men I was working with had been in the hunting industry for years and this was my first big show. They were completely awesome and continued to encourage me.

I was paying attention to other vendors especially females and I felt that it didn’t matter if I was knowledgeable or talented, it mattered what I looked like.

So, this may fire up some people and that’s ok. You may completely disagree and you may have had an entirely different experience. This is my take on all of it…… if you are an ethical hunter (male or female) keep doing what you do and don’t let a single person bring you down. If you wanna wear makeup and hunt, go for it. If you want to shoot that 8 point you’ve been watching and your afraid your buddy will tell you to give it another year, but you need some meat on the table, go for it! If you happen to get a bad shot by accident, don’t let anyone tell you they’ve never done it and made a mistake. We as hunters need to stop ridiculing each other, we are all here for the same common cause.  I don’t care if your skinny, fat, tall, short, male, female, black, white, city, country…. if you are an ethical hunter and love what you do, keep on keeping on my friends. And you are all beautiful in my eyes.

As for me, I’m going to keep hunting and selling these arrows because I know they work. I have a love and passion for the outdoors and hunting and it doesn’t matter what I look like, I’m beautiful the way I am.
