Not Dora the Explorer

Have you ever explored an old structure while out hunting or scouting a new property? I love to find old buildings, houses or barns while hunting or scouting new and old properties to hunt. This old log cabin sits at the edge of a thick cedar forest just 100 yards away from the corner of a soybean field on a farm I hunted last year. I found it while scouting a spot to hang a stand, and could not help but wonder how life was at the time the folks who lived here was. The hand stacked stones of the chimney stood above the fallen in roof, and I thought about how hard the men must have worked to even build this little home. Through the busted window I could see old newspaper clinging to the wall as a form of insulation to keep the wind from blowing through the cracks in the walls. The logs had obviously been manually placed, as well as the chinking between them. There is a story hidden in this little cabin, and sitting on the deteriorated front porch I wished these logs could talk…what would they say?? Who built it? How long had it been here? It is a story I will probably never know, yet I cannot help but think about those who had been here before me…
