So you think your ready for elk season

pedometer 2Not many people know or can grasp how much ground you cover in a typical elk hunt… My team and I often do a lot of scouting and have good intel on where to hunt so this drastically reduces the amount of traveling we do while we are hunting.. So unless you get lucky and get into them right away you could be putting some serious miles on your boots…   My cameraman and good friend Drew Chicone didn’t believe me how much ground we cover so he decided to wear his Nike pedometer to see what we do in 4 days we did 50 miles on foot and we knew where the elk were…

So a little tip if your cant find elk and you want to minimize your boot work drive around at night go a 1/4 a mile at a time bugle listen for them… if you locate some bugle take note of the topography and look for bowls and canyons also locate waterholes and meadows in those areas the  will morn than likely feed in the meadows at night and prob be there in early morn then feed back to the canyons to bed for the day, they will soften water miday or early after noon but this is just a rule of thumb because they will drink when they are thirsty and that could be at any given time….. setting atrial cam on these spots will help you determine when the best time to sit water is…
