Sonora Mexico Desert Bighorn Sheep Hunt

In March 2016 I went with a client down to Old Mexico for his first ever sheep hunt. I had acquired the tag through fellow contributor John Stallone and gotten Joe Miles set up on the hunt. I went with him to help guide and make sure that he had a quality experience. We were working with a local outfitter from the area who had all the ground work done as far as food, lodging, and local knowledge of the land we’d be hunting. He did a fantastic job with everything from the 5 star accommodations on the beach, to the food, to the knowledgeable and very talented assistant guides/spotters he employs.

The terrain was really rough and the thermometer reached nearly 90 degrees every day. We found sheep everyday but it wasn’t until day 4 that we found a ram we felt like was a trophy that Joe would be proud of. I glassed the rams up a big canyon right after daylight, and after splitting up and coming in from both sides, Joe made a perfect 212 yard shot and put the ram down! We got him packed out by mid afternoon, made the drive back to the beach house and spent the remainder of the trip relaxing on the beach. I would highly recommend this hunt to anyone thats got desert sheep on their list! Contact me of your interested and we can make it happen!

My Bio

Zach Knowles is a professional outfitter and guide as well as doing contract camera work for an outdoor television show in some of the most extreme destinations anywhere in the world. He thrives in the harsh places and isn't afraid to take on any challenge in any terrain. Zach’s family has been in the hunting and outfitting business since he was a small child and he spent a lot of his young years in Saskatchewan where his father outfitted 70+ deer and bear hunts a year. At 12 years old Zach harvested an elk, mule deer, and antelope on a trip to Wyoming and it was then that his love of the mountains and western hunting was born. Since then he has gone on to guide and harvest many more animals from Alaska to Mexico, to the Middle East. He owns and operates Xtreme Outfitters, running 60+ whitetail, mule deer, mountain lion, and sheep hunts a year. When he’s not guiding or hunting for himself, you'll find him in the team roping arena or at the ranch taking care of his commercial cow herd.
